How to manicure your nails like a pro without the right equipment?

I am 15 years old and want to start making my nails look absolutely gorgeous. I don't have the proper equipment at all (besides a nile file). I've read articles which tell me I need to file, buff and push back my cuticles with 'an orange stick'. First of all what exactly is buffing and its purpose and how can I do it without a nail buffer? Also, can I use for instance a tooth pick to push back my cuticles?
Buffing is just polishing the surface of your nail. You can get a slight buffing effect by using a soft cloth, like a chamois, and rubbing it over the surface of your nails. You can use your own nails to push back your cuticles. It is easiest to do when they are soft, like after you've come out of the shower.

Nail buffing is the act of `polishing' the nail using buffers of successively finer grit. it can increase the blood circulation to the nail bed. Buffing off the ridges also gives a smoother surface for the polish to adhere to. Actually buffing leaves such an attractive sheen to the nails, that you might skip the polishing step. After all, buffed nails cannot chip.Buffing encourages the nails to grow thanks to the improved circulation.This procedure also helps to remove surface stains.
For buffing you can use a traditional buffer or a piece of chamois. You can find the traditional manicure kit from Big lot at very low price (just $1/$2) Apply a little buffing cream to the nails and then buff in one direction
Don't use tooth pick to push back cuticles, you might hurt yourself.
Following are the few website that tells you how to do manicure yourself and how to keep them beautiful.
make sure you have everything you need before you start. i wouldn't worry about buffing...if you do the paint right, you won't need to.
don't use a toothpick. use something with a blunt edge to push back your cuticles. like the end of a tablefork handle.
cut your nails straight across (if you have clippers)
use your file to round off the corners. remember to file in one direction only, don't do that back-and-forth motion, it creates jagged edges.
go wash your hands with soap and water. dry them good.
you should dip the brush, pull one side along the bottle top as you bring it out to remove excess, and paint one line down the middle of the nail, then dip the brush the same way again and fill in either side. try to use the least amount of strokes possible to cover the nail. if you keep painting over and over the paint gets sticky. do all your nails. let dry a few minutes.
get some q-tips, dip them in polish remover, and clean up the edges of your fingers, and whatever other mistakes you made.
paint a second coat. let dry a few minutes.
then paint on a topcoat, with plain clear, or i like to use silver glitter in a clear coat...it jazzes up any color. with the top coat, you have to be quick! if you stroke too much, you will start pulling up the color. dip the brush, don't remove the excess this time, and get that topcoat on quick.
now you need to let dry thoroughly.
*btw you can manicure sets with everything you need supercheap, like less than 5 bucks. an orange stick is really just an orange stick and its cheap too
*do NOT apply moisterizer to your hands and nails before you paint as some people will tell you to do...that will only make the paint peel. all your work will be for nothing when your paint starts coming up the next day, or the first time you wash your hands.
you should use hand lotion on a regular basis, just not right before you do your nails. lotion should keep your cuticles and skin from drying out.
*do NOT soak your nails before you file them as some people will tell you to do...it will damage them. i find that soaking is unnecessary altogether, but if you want to do it, do it after you file, during the step where i say to wash your hands.

Please Help!!! Had an accident with a battery operated nail manicure tool

I was messing with a new nail buffer thing I got and accidentally twisted my hair into it!! I guess I just leaned down too far and before I realized it I had a teeny tiny braid about 2 inches long and twisted around the spinning part of the buffer (I'm such a klutz)! I managed to get the buffer out of my hair, but how do I untangle the braid without cutting it?
Also, my hair is super thick and it tends to frizz, and I scrunched it today so there's lots of hair spray in it!
grab your conditioner, slop on tons of it, grab a good comb and start slowing picking through from the bottom up, little by little...take a break if you get burnt from picking through your hair....dont rush and start snapping it. It will work itself out.
You're not a klutz...it happens to the best of us!! Hope this helps!

How do I use my nail kit?

How can I buff my nails? I have a nail buffer/shaper but it doesn't have instruction so please tell me how to use it!
I also have a big kit of nailstuff that came with it!
the kit came with cuticle remover cream, nail stencils for french manicures, four step thing (it says #1 remove, #2 clean, #3 condition, & # 4 shine), nail polish (french pink, french white, and top coat + more normal ones), a nail white pincil, and some other things I don't know what to call!
I can't believe no one has answered this one yet!
Going by the 1,2,3,4 thing:
1) #1 Remove any nail polish on your nails with nail polish remover
2) #2 Clean: If you have a nail brush, gently scrub your nails on the tops and underneath
3) At this point, I would go ahead and trim your nails if needed with some clippers. (Some clippers look like a pair of shears- that may be one of your unknowns)
4) #3 Condition: Did your kit come with liquid conditioning soak? If so, soak your fingenails and cuticles in it for about 10-15 minutes. It the kit incudes conditioniong cream or oil put a tiny bit of it on the edge of your cuticle (nail side) and rub it in to your cutuicle. Leave it on for about 5-10 minutes. You can also use a little hand soap and Vitamin E in warm water to soak (make sure you rinse afterwards). If you have nail conditioner that is clear stuff in a bottle with a brush, paint it onto your clean nails starting at the half moon and stroking outward to the end of the nail (leave the area around the cuticle alone. let it dry.
5) If your kit includes an orange stick (wooden stick with angled flat ends), you can use it to gently push the cuticle back if your cuticles have grown over the nail too far. On the same note, if your kit includes a cuticle shaver (usually a plastic stick handle with a little piece of "v" shaped metal), you can gently use it to shave off any excess cuticle or hang nails. Be careful, it is sharper than it looks ****NEVER CUT AWAY OR PUSH AWAY ALL OR MOST OF YOUR CUTICLE- THEIR PURPOSE IS TO PREVENT NAIL INFECTION AND CUTTING IT AWAY WILL EXPOSE YOU TO IT!!***
6) Next, file your nails. Your kit probably came with a diamond file- which is a metal finger file. Gently shape your nails with the file, making sure to file in one direction- don't saw. When you are done, take the tip of the file and round the underside of the nail, removing any nail debris that might be hanging.
7) BUFF your nails:
OK, you didn't describe what type of buffer you have. There are several types.
A) One type looks like a little pillow attached to a handle. You use this with buffing cream. To use, place a little buffing cream on the nail and draw the buffer over the nail going in the same direction, don't "saw" .
B) the second type is the 123buffers which are either 4colored blocks or 4color emery boards.
a) You basically start with the roughest of the colors. Draw it over your nail in one continuous motion, do not saw. only do this with a few strokes.
b) Turn to the second roughest side and to this again.
c) The next side should be a buffing side. If the third side is not rough, you can use 15 back and forth strokes across the nail ( if it is rough at all repeat step "b"
d) The last side is definately a buffer and will make your nails shiny. 15 strokes back and forth across the nail will accomplish this.
***Be careful not to buff away too much of the nail. You will get a burning sensation if you are getting too close to the nail bed. You just want to do it enough to smooth away any rough ridges on the top of the nail***
- the white nail pencil is for painting the underside of your nail. I don't understand this, but its supposed to make the nail look longer.
